Winter Activities in Cornwall 2019

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean that Cornwall shuts up shop. NO, Winter in Cornwall means less queues, reduced admission fees and still lots of fun things to keep the family occupied during this colder and quieter, but still gloriously picturesque, period.

As we all know, Cornwall is famous for its beautiful beaches, so why not wrap up warm and take a blustery walk along the coast line, before then warming yourselves up in one of the many lovely tea rooms scattered along our sea-side towns. Or, you could instead visit one of the many year round attractions, that are open 7 days a week throughout Cornwall.

National Maritime Museum, Falmouth

Hands-on activities galore for all the family. There’s plenty for the kids to do at the treasure island playzone, lots of interesting exhibits, including the Titanic stories and of course lots of Festive fun throughout the Christmas period. Including the Christmas light switch on parade and the light trail.

Eden Project, nr St Austell

Dreaming of warmer climes this winter? Make a beeline for the humid Tropical biome. There are lots of fun and festive winter activities throughout November, through until February 2020 to do at the Eden Project. From ice-skating to art exhibitions and the Festival of Christmas.

Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay

The chilly winter sea may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so head indoors to the ‘comfort’ of the shark tunnel for a slice of marine wildlife action. There’s always something to do at the aquarium, with daily talks and sea-life feeds. And, with all day passes, you can come and go as you please.

Cornish Seal Sanctuary, Gweek

Winter is pup rescue season for the Cornish Seal Sanctuary which means it’s a great time to visit to see this rehabilitation centre at its busiest. Be prepared to fall in love with these doe-eyed cuties.

Lost Gardens of Heligan, Pentewan

Pull on your wellies, you’ve got 200 acres of garden history, mystery and romance to discover. The lost gardens are a magical place during the Christmas period. From the festive Christmas trail to actually meeting Father Christmas himself! There’s lots of fun activities for all ages.

Take a frosty walk down to the private beach and warm up with some homemade soup in the café. It’s what winter days are made for!
